Hello, international scientists, my name is Chip Lindgren and I am the Founder & President of AG Scientific, Inc. Founded in 1997, we are focused on advancing drug development via innovative biochemicals for preclinical research, as well as, custom raw materials for diagnostic test development.

History

• I am an educated microbiologist from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst

• We are established expert in fermentation derived secondary metabolites. Most products are antibiotics for gene selection, but products also include antimicrobial, anti-fungal, anti-cancer, antiviral, anti-parasitic and immunosuppressive reagents. Our breakthrough product was a partnership with Eli Lilly’s, Elanco division to purchase bulk Hygromycin B.

Antibiotics:

• Elanco used Hygromycin B in their pig feed but our application was the emergence of genetic engineering by performing plasmid cloning utilizing an antibiotic resistance marker. AG Scientific, Inc. developed a suite of Antibiotic selection agents including Blasticidin S, G-418, Puromycin, Gentamycin, Kanamycin, Ampicillin, Streptomycin, Carbenicillin…. We began successfully promoting this item at the time to all the leading Molecular Biology companies, Sigma Chemical, Stratagene, Invitrogen, Clontech, ICN, Amersham….

• Most recently we have partnered with pharmaceutical clients utilizing CRISPR technology. The same antibiotic selection is employed before CRISPR/Cas system is utilized. This has blown open the door to a number of inherited diseases previously only treated therapeutically.

Anti-Cancer:

• Our fermentation experience led to secondary metabolite opportunities in the field of cancer: products such as rapamycin, FK-506, Cyclosporin A. An early success story is the multi-kilogram scale development of the anti-tumor compound, Geldanamycin, with Infinity Pharmaceutical. Due to their better toxicity profile, the clinical candidates became semi-synthetic sister compounds 17-AAG & 17-DMAG. Sadly, AG Scientific being a young organization of 4 years old, preclinical focused and not ISO certified lead to the loss of the contract.

• We took this setback as motivation to become ISO 9001:2000 certified, incorporated internal packaging division and expand our corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA.

Enzymes:

• With the demonstration of our business to business (B2B) proficiency and internal packaging & private labeling capabilities, we secured partnerships to promote a series of enzymes extremely useful in the field of Molecular Biology. Specifically, microarray studies, real-time PCR, northern blots, or cDNA cloning applications.

• Proteinase K enzyme is used for the isolation of clean and native genomic DNA and RNA in order to guarantee PCR-based detection became a breakthrough product for us. A sister compound, RNase A, removes RNA became a potent 1-2 punch in the B2B market, as well as, business to consumer(B2C) marketplace. We then added a series of related items such as buffers, biological detergents, and inhibitors. Typical examples are DTT, Guanidine HCl, Tris, KCl, AEBSF, PMSF, MgCl2, Triton X-100, Tween 20, and NP-40…

• Another enzyme partnership continued the expansion and elatedly deepened our product offering & applications within the antibiotic, diagnostic & medical device markets (read above & below).

Diagnostics:

• In late 1999, we developed & launched a novel line of Protease, Phosphatase inhibitors, as well as, custom Protease inhibitor cocktails (PICS). These were customized to their protein or Biomarker of interest. Rapid enzyme inactivation was essential to preservation & stabilization of the protein biomarker.

• These reagents have vast applications in the field of Proteomics, as well as, diagnostic test development. The market leader, Roche’s PIC tablet format took a long time to dissolve and inactivate enzymes.

• We incorporated larger surface area, faster inactivation via lyophilized PICS. In the years’ since its introduction, we have secured numerous Diagnostic clients in the Human & cCmpanion animal diagnostic marketplace. We are proud to state Diagnostics has grown to be our 2nd largest product line.

Medical Device:

• The fermentation/metabolite experience has led to another beneficial product line. This is the supply of ionophores components to the in vitro diagnostic (IVD) Medical Device industry. Naturally fermented ionophores such as Valinomycin, Ionomycin, A23187, Nigericin, Nonactin, Enniatins, Alamethicin,…are used as Ion Select Electrodes (ISE).

• Synthetically, produced ionophores such as Lithium Ionophore VIII, CA-1001, Monensin Methyl Ester… can be used as an ISE, as well as, ionophore based Optical Sensor (IBOS). These compounds hold great promise in the rapidly growing market of wearable biosensors and have proved to be a growing marketplace for AG Scientific.

Future:

• AG Scientific’s future is bright. Our main product lines: Antibiotics, Proteomics, Diagnostic and Medical Device have shown year to year growth for the last three years. Short term, we are poised to attain deeper penetration in Proteomics marketplace with our superior services, response time, diverse product offering will lead to substantial growth.

• Longer term, we deem deeper penetration in the diagnostic & medical device is required. Additional certification in ISO 13485, Medical Devices is warranted. This market requires a more intense qualification process but in return, we receive better gross margins, improved supply security, as well as, greater pricing independence.
